Rejected 6 Lakh Job Offer to pursue M.Tech: Navyasri

Navyasri – GATE 2013 All India 6th ranker in Civil Engineering

“Higher Education is the only way to grow up in the career” is what my parents always say. Left the job offer with 6 lakh package and put my hard work in the GATE exam and stood 6th place in the Civil Engineering..Varri Navyasri with sakshieducation…

Achievements:
10th standard(2006): 559 marks
Intermediate(2008): 968 marks
EAMCET(2008): 134 rank
AIEEE (2008): 2000 rank
IIIT Hyderabad(2012): 8.35 CGPAB.Tech in NIT Warangal:I was brought up in Hyderabad. My father worked as Assistant Manager in HCL and later went into construction business. My mother runs a private school. I completed B.Tech Civil Engineering in NIT Warangal with 8.35 CGPA.

Choosing GATE:

Initially I have no clarity on the future till B.Tech fourth year. As my parents always say that higher education is the only option to grow high in career, I took up GATE as the career option. I was very happy getting 6th rank in GATE exam. I rejected the 6 lakh job offered by Capillary Technologies in the campus placements for preparing the GATE exam. The messages sent by my friends telling about their first salary, cadre and their enjoyment in the companies worried me, but my parents supported me in my endeavour.

Choosing Civil Engineering:

It is very rare that women take Civil Engineering. I am aversed to the software job and like the core jobs. So while searching for the core branch, as my father is into construction industry, I took Civil Engineering in NIT Warangal.

Preparation strategy:

I have prepared combining theory and practicals. As I got good grip in the subject, I was able to easily grasp the concepts of the GATE syllabus. For theory part, I followed academic books, previous questions and practiced the bits given at the end of the chapter. Along with the classroom coaching, I studied four hours daily.

My first preference is Transportation:

My preferences in M.Tech are structures and Transportation specializations. My first option is Transportation because of the relevance it got due to the problems our society is facing on transportation. While choosing institutes, I prefer IISc Bangalore and IIT Bombay.

Future Goal:

My future goal is to crack the Engineering services exam and I am preparing for the June exam.

Through this exam we can do some service to the society. The alternative to Engineering services is to establish a construction company.

Advice to the students:

According to me, GATE is a grand annual test for the four year Engineering course. So GATE is an easy go with command over the conceptual knowledge in the Engineering course. Covering all the syllabus of the GATE and having application oriented approach in the studies can make one champion of the GATE exam. The students who target GATE, start preparing from the third year, as the competition increases year on year and the students have to set their preparation stratedy accordingly.

Research is the Only Way for Our Self Reliance: Sujit Kumar

Research is the Only Way for Our Self Reliance by Sujit Kumar (GATE 2013 All India Topper in ECE)

The ICs we use in Television is still imported from foreign companies. The only way to reverse this situation is to develop our research base and GATE is the starting step to pursue this. I left the job to reach my goal and did it with my parents’ support. On achieving first rank in GATE 2013 (ECE), B.Sujith kumar shares his success story with sakshieducation

Achievements:

10th standard(2004): 9th ranker in the state with 579 marks
Intermediate(2006): 921 marks
EAMCET(2006): 602 rank
AIEEE (2006): 1753 rank
IIIT Hyderabad(2010): 8.4 CGPA

B.Tech in IIIT:

I am a native of Mangalpad in Nizamabad and as my father worked as botany lecturer in Bhodan, I studied till 10th standard there. I completed intermediate at a private college in Hyderabad and B.Tech in IIIT Hyderabad.

Left Job offer:

After completing B.Tech (E.C.E) in 2010, I got selected in Kritikal Solutions as an embedded engineer through campus placements. I was not satisfied irrespective of the attractive package. The electronic components which we import for our use is the reason which led to my dissatisfaction. This feeling crept into my mind for the first time when I was doing the research project on Robotics in IIIT Hyderabad. This drived me to take research and invent new products. To fulfill my motto, I started attempting GATE in 2011,2012 while doing job. For GATE 2013, I left the job and attempted and was confident of getting a rank in top 10. I am very gald that I secure top rank.

Rectified the shortfalls:

I am attempting GATE from 2011, but put all my efforts from August last year… studied 8 hours a day. I did my preparation rectifying the shortfalls of my previous attempts. Practicing the problems at the end of the chapter helped me a lot. As application oriented problems appear in GATE, I led my preparation in that way.

Specialization in VLSI:

I will choose institutions where VLSI, Analog Signal Designing are offered. IIT Bombay, Chennai and IISc Bangalore are offering these specializations.

Research in VLSI:

My aim is to do research in Electronics and chose VLSI as a research topic. I will do job for some time and after getting experience, will establish a firm.

Advice to Students:

The students have to leave the misconception that GATE is a tough exam. The syllabus is same as that of B.Tech. So by interlinking the theory and problem solving approach of the B.Tech syllabus, one may easily get good rank in the GATE exam. Plan your preparation from B.Tech second year for the GATE exam. As majority of the companies are prefering post graduates, cracking GATE will be a good step ahead for a bright career.
